New body reinforcement parts "Motion Control Beam", development progress information ①

In order to enjoy driving positively, we think that the higher the body rigidity (hereinafter referred to as rigidity), the better.
If the rigidity is low, the performance of the suspension and tires cannot be exhibited, and as a result, driving is not fun or comfortable. (For more informationhere)

Therefore, I intend to explore the weak points of the body and install new reinforcement parts to create a perfect rigid body.

The car always twists and turns due to the input from the road surface. It may be hard to imagine "twisting", but for example, when entering a left curve, the load increases most on the right front wheel.Conversely, the one with the least load is the left rear wheel on its diagonal.
If you pass the clipping point and step on the accelerator to accelerate, the load on the right rear wheel will increase and the load on the left front wheel will decrease.

In other words, by shifting from the deceleration state to the acceleration state, the load on the diagonal increases or decreases, or the diagonal changes, so the body is twisted. This is especially noticeable in S-shaped corners.

Since the body that receives the twist has a different shape depending on the part, the rigidity also changes and the degree of twist also differs.
The cabin has a monocoque structure (box shape) surrounded by a roof on the top, a floor and frame on the bottom, and pillars, so it is a relatively advantageous structure against twisting.

However, the front of the A-pillar and the rear of the C-pillar are composed of cross members and are not a monocoque structure. Moreover, the end of the monocoque to the end of the body also serves as the suspension mounting part, so it is easier to twist than the monocoque.

This time, we decided to develop a new body part to suppress the twist of the end part.
Specifically, I thought about updating the previously set "frame end brace".
The frame end brace is a rigid steel frame that connects the ends of the body to the left and right. It was an effective part that made me feel that it became a completely rigid body when I installed it after increasing the rigidity with a tower bar, lower arm bar, floor cross bar, etc.

However, there was a tendency for the slight vibration that could not be absorbed by the suspension and tires to be easily transmitted to the driver. In particular, the latest Mazda cars are more rigid than the cars of the time, and this tendency is noticeable.

When aiming for a completely rigid body, it is essential to increase the rigidity of the end part. However, is it possible to suppress this slight vibration when singing the street vest?I thought ...
As a result of careful consideration, I tried to change the frame part of the frame end brace to an ultra-high damping damper, and to absorb the slight vibration at the last minute.

The aim is to increase the rigidity, so the point is how effective it is.Therefore, for the front and rear ends with different rigidity, increase or decrease the damping force to find the balance point.

The first is the ND Roadster.By the way, the information is published in the "HYPER REV Roadster" released the other day, so if you are interested, please go to the bookstore!
Next time, I will delve into the structure of the damper.
Please look forward to it.
